    Sunny’s Gifts and Things

    Lava is a Japanese/Hawaiian/Black playwright and director, born in Okinawa, Japan, and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii. She has been creating theatre in Portland, Oregon, for almost two decades, and some of her recent directing credits include King of the Yees for Profile Theatre, School Girls, or; the African Mean Girls play for Portland Center Stage, The Chinese Lady, The Revolutionists, and An Octoroon(co-direction) for Artists Repertory Theatre. Writing credits include Middletown Mall (Eugene O’Neill NPC semi-finalist), The Event for Artists Repertory Theatre’s Mercury Festival, T.I.N.A for 48-hour Film Festival, redline for 24-hour Theatre Festival, and Mutt for ManyHats Collaboration. She is a proud member of the Stage Directors & Choreographers Society (SDC) and Dramatists Guild.

    Mercury Rhone (he/him/his) is an experienced neurodivergent actor and writer; he enjoys contributing to theatre productions in any capacity, and is interested in media generally. He is currently studying Creative Writing at UBC, but has also completed courses from various UBC departments, including Journalism, Education, Film Studies, and Film Production.

    Frances Koncan (she/they) is an Anishinaabe and Slovene playwright from Couchiching First Nation and Assistant Professor of Playwriting at UBC. They hold a BA in Psychology from the University of Manitoba and an MFA in Playwriting from the City University of New York Brooklyn College.     Originally from Kingston, Ontario, Mercury trained in theatre there throughout high school and during his bachelor's degree in English and Drama at Queen’s University. He enjoys all aspects of performance arts, and multiple genres. He is neurodivergent, welcoming the consideration of alternative ways of thinking in artistic practice and content

    Matthew Jin (he/they) is a Taiwanese-Canadian BFA acting student currently in his 2nd year at UBC. Recent credits include Matthew (Outside, Vancouver Fringe) and George (The Coolest Ghost, UBC Player’s Club). Following his participation in last year’s BNPR Festival, Matthew is looking forward to another opportunity to learn from industry professionals and to read more emerging works.

  • XiaoQing Ye

    XiaoQing Ye is a Vancouver based actress and dancer. After discovering her love for acting, she moved to Vancouver in 2022 and pursued acting training at Vancouver Film School. With a passion for storytelling, she is actively involved in stage and screen projects, as well as dance performances. She feels that she is better understood when she is acting or dancing.

    Coming from Indonesia and the Philippines, Laurentius is a second-year student planning to major in International Relations at UBC. His four loves in life are acting, running, food, and his corgi.

  • Jennie Grenelle

    Jennie Grenelle recently relocated to Vancouver from Washington, DC! She has performed off-Broadway, throughout the US, and now here in Vancouver! Jennie is a creator of the podcast Feminist Fairytales, and has taught with UBC (Public Speaking) and the Arts Club. She holds an MFA from the Academy for Classical Acting and a BFA from NYU-Tisch.
